Only a licensed surveyor can legally locate and mark property boundaries in Kentucky. While PDS, LINK-GIS, the Property Valuation Administrator (PVA), and the Clerk’s office all work with maps as part of their operations, none of those agencies are surveyors.
The PVA is the authority on property and parcel ownership and assessment value information.
The Clerk’s office keeps official plat map records (often submitted by surveyors).
The property lines in LINK-GIS come from the PVA office (and the Clerk’s office), but they are NOT A SURVEY, and are not intended to represent actual surveyed property lines – only a licensed surveyor can authoritatively map property boundaries.
For questions regarding property line disputes with neighbors, fence placement, tree location questions, or any situation requiring an authoritative determination of where a property line exists, only a licensed surveyor can legally locate and mark property boundaries in Kentucky. If you are looking for a licensed surveyor in your area, please visit the Kentucky Association of Professional Surveyors (KAPS) website at kaps1.com or use their Find a Surveyor directory.
