GIS staffer elected president of KAMP; will serve organization for two years

August 13, 2008

Christy Powell, senior specialist in NKAPC’s GIS administration department, was recently elected to the highest office of the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals (KAMP). She will serve this next year as president-elect and the following year as president.

“KAMP is fairly new,” said Powell. “It was founded in 2003 as a service organization promoting mapping in different disciplines—surveying, GIS, and tax assessing. We’re working on potential legislation now and developing programs and initiatives to make GIS more familiar to people.”

A former graduate school classmate of Powell’s nominated her for the position during the Kentucky GIS Conference on July 7.

“I was and am really honored to be nominated and elected,” she said. “I hope to be able to continue to grow KAMP’s recognition and membership over the next two years.”

Powell has been employed by NKAPC since 1996. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters of Geoscience, both from Murray State University.
